In a context where humans might become mere supervisors of inscrutable machines, there is a risk of cultivating a sense of disorientation. One of the risks associated with the explosion of AI is not just the loss of jobs, but a kind of erosion of the value and the human factor. 

The new, imperative mandate for professionals in this sector is therefore not simply to accelerate the execution of processes through AI, but to design ecosystems where AI acts as an enabler of the human value of work. This requires a fundamental shift in perspective for the developer’s role: from “process executor” to “architect of meaning,” and from “technology translator” to “ambassador between AI and humans”.

  • The possibility of human intervention: It is essential to integrate checkpoints for validation, especially in crucial decisions, and to ensure that new procedures do not discourage—or replace—human intervention.
  • Monitoring efficiency: This means going beyond traditional throughput metrics by tracking indicators like decision-making autonomy, innovation proposals, and time spent on high-cognition tasks.
  • Transparency instead of “black boxes”: Technical teams and stakeholders deserve to understand how decisions are made. A human-centric AI must be understandable and reliable. Explainability is fundamental for building trust; we cannot trust a copilot if we do not know how it thinks.
  • Ethics and responsibility as crucial factors:  Redefining the value of AI technologies by putting humans at the center also means considering their ethical and social impact. Who is responsible if an AI makes a mistake? How can we prevent biases and discrimination in training data? The human-centric approach requires addressing these questions from the early design phases, ensuring that systems are fair, safe, and beneficial for everyone.

The ultimate goal is not to replace humans, but to provide them with an enhanced tool: an intelligent copilot that supports them in making better decisions, being more creative, and freeing themselves from repetitive tasks to focus on higher-value activities.

For IT leaders, this means implementing a new approach that goes beyond simple productivity metrics. Here are some best practices for building reliable and adaptable systems that not only optimize processes but also amplify the human potential and dignity of employees and collaborators:

  • Work review and allocation: It is desirable to automate transactional tasks while valuing relational ones. Agents are perfect for repetitive cognitive work, like diagnostics or compliance checks, while humans remain irreplaceable for empathy, ethical judgment, and creative problem-solving. Agents can be used to manage service desk backlogs, but teams should be entrusted with defining the purpose that guides priority decisions.
  • Harnessing human potential: AI can—and should—be used to go beyond mere productivity gains. For example, if an LLM drafts an infrastructure report, the team can be challenged to reinterpret key sections as narratives or visual metaphors, asking, “What human truths did the algorithm overlook?”. This transforms technical work into a true process of meaning-making.
  • Auditing and redefining metrics: It is useful to start by mapping where autonomous LLMs are already operating, even in unofficial implementations. This involves bringing these “ghost systems” to light and radically redefining success metrics, shifting from “tickets resolved” to “human potential unlocked”.
  • Designing prompts as cultural architecture: This means replacing transactional commands (“summarize incident reports”) with purpose-oriented prompts (“identify three incidents where technician empathy changed the outcome and explain why bots might not catch this pattern”). In this way, innovation becomes more conscious, and ethics become an integral part of the operational process.

In this new scenario, the fundamental choice for tech leaders is no longer whether to adopt AI, but how to do it. The developers’ task is to act as architects of a new paradigm in which intelligent agents amplify human dignity instead of eroding it. This is not just a technical challenge, but a profound challenge of leadership and, more broadly, of vision.
